This website posts negative comments about me and our business. The following refers :

  1. They have never been a client of ours so they can only relate 3rd party stories.
  2. They have no mechanism to state the other part’s version. Such a TripAdvisor where I can expand on your posting or comment.
  3. The website is written in such a closed way that there is no contact or any form or way to be able to find out who has written the content and to be able to contact the person. This clearly indicates to me that your only intention is to spread incorrect facts and that you have no intention to resolve anything. Back to my first comment. Speak to me !
  4. They promote alternative operators in Zambia. I will tell you who is winding their odo meters back and some other facts that will create a more balanced view.
  5. The same profile is active on www.4x4community.co.za. I have used this platform’s email function to make contact a couple of a months ago with follow ups but no contact despite that this person is posting to the 4x4community platform on a regular basis. Clearly once again that this person has no intention to engage.

If you want something to be resolved please speak to me. In case you are wondering where to get hold of me :

4×4 Rental South Africa Abuse

I must admit that after a couple of years being in the 4×4 rental industry I am still shocked how some clients go out of their way to destroy what they have rented. I do understand and appreciate that where our clients go with our 4×4 vehicles. A scratch here and a ding there… all good ! But simply trying their best to destroy a vehicle and then they even lie about it. Here are some examples ….

Driving on a bumpy road at speed will ensure your grill breaks off. - South Africa 4x4 Rentals, Carel Pienaar

How do you roll a vehicle on a straight tar road at 80km per hour...... I simply do not understand this.

No regard for bumpy dirt roads. Lets just drive as fast as we can..... The radiator bracket broke off......

10 minutes after handing the client their 4×4 rental they phoned us to tell us the tent is broken. They did not see the under cover parking is to low. We tell all our clients not to use under cover parking……….
This client comes back and tells me that this is the worst vehicle he has ever rented because he had electrical problems..... guess what... if you drive the vehicle in water until it looks like this then it will give you electrical problems.....

Some advise. You are not auditioning for YouTube. If you want to go and swim with a 4×4, buy your own and fix it at your own cost afterwards !

What are we doing about this 4×4 rental abuse? Two weeks before your rental when we confirm final details I am going to mail you as a client some 4×4 driving tips for Africa. This will cover rivers, water, basic mechanical checks every day and other things you should avoid while out on your 4×4 adventure. We have also trained our staff to do better mechanical checks when clients hand back their 4×4 at the end of your rental. They will look for specific things as mentioned in this article – 4×4 rental south africa abuse.

Abuse of our vehicles is not included in the rate.

PS – To give this posting balance I also have clients that really look well after our 4×4 vehicles. They comes with  alist of suggestions and many of these we implement. Many thanks to these clients ! They know who they are. BIG thank you to you.

The principle is simple. I give you a very valuable vehicle which we have prepared with love, attention and a lot of money so that you can experience Africa. If you cannot look after the vehicle then do not rent one. Walk.

Erwan le Doze

Erwan le Doze

Erwan le Doze rented a Land Rover Defender from us in 2015 ( old cows being dragged around her…lol ). The Defender became unavailable due to an accident it was involved with a couple of days before his rental was about to start ( see comment at the bottom about accidents ). According to our rental contracts ( will be great if clients read it and guide themselves accordingly and not by emotional outbursts ) at this stage I can step out of the contract and have no further dealings with the client. I am also human and realised that the client would be better off with my assistance than being left to his own devises. Usually being kind and trying to do the right thing and being legally correct does not match.

Facts :

  1. I provided the le Doze family with accommodation in Johannesburg. Free of charge.
  2. I offered Erwan le Doze an alternative equipped 4×4 ( Land Cruiser ). This vehicle was available immediately. The Land Cruiser also costs me considerable more than what Erwan would have paid me for the rental of the Land Rover. But I was willing to make this arrangement in order to get their adventure on the road. Erwan le Doze DECLINED this offer and went ahead to make his own arrangements.
  3. There was no reason for Erwan to miss out on his adventure.
  4. The refund of the deposit was never an issue and was offered from the beginning. Erwan le Doze kept changing the amount he was claiming from me as then he only wanted to have the deposit, then he wanted me to pay for his trip, then additional fees for inconvenience caused. Anyone involved with a refund or payment surely get the final details ready first and then make the payment. Before Erwan could decide what he wanted he went on http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum and made a posting about his bad experience and how I did not want to refund him. Not true !
  5. I must say that I found the comments made by other members of the 4×4 community rather strange. Not one of them contacted me to find out what the facts were. All had immediate offers of sympathy on the original posting and a few even tried to add on their own little story (see previous post about Self Drive Africa Rentals). None of the astute 4×4 members actually offered any assistance to solve the matter. Net soos ‘n klomp kwetter voëls in ‘n boom.

PS – Thanks to Hannes Grobler who is a legal practitioner who became aware of this matter and then assisted in drafting an agreement to solve this matter. Effort and work is appreciated !

Self Drive Africa Rentals

Today I address a matter with Self Drive Africa Rental.

My mission continues to put out the correct facts. I have found over the past 2 years that some clients and companies I work with only refers to the side of the agreement that benefits them and then they get very offended and makes all sorts of threats, if I try and enforce my side of the agreement. I am slowly addressing each and every negative comment posted about South Africa 4×4 Rentals on the internet. Where I messed up I will gladly admit it and sort it out with the individual. But random untruths posted on the Internet stops now !

Self Drive Africa Rentals

For this post I refer to a Toyota Hilux 4×4 I have rented in from Self Drive Africa Rentals in Johannesburg. I rented this vehicle for a client of mine as we had another client of mine that had an accident with my 4×4. Point is, I did the right thing in assisting my client and made arrangements for a replacement vehicle for him.

The vehicle had a major breakdown in Harare in Zimbabwe ( the complete front end of the bumper and all the lights fell off due to metal fatigue ) and it could not be driven back to South Africa. I had to return to Zimbabwe a month later to fetch the 4×4. These costs I deducted from the rental payment that was to be made to Self Drive Africa Rental. I had a meeting with the owners Laura Gale and Dave Gale and these costs which I carried were discussed and an agreement was made. To my surprise Dave Gale goes forward and makes a negative posting on http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/ about how we do not want to pay him or Self Drive Africa Rentals. Dave, what part of the meeting did you fall a sleep ?

The Facts

Dave and Laura, lets look at the facts.

  1. We met before hand and discussed that these costs would not be paid.
  2. From Self Drive Africa Rental there was no assistance offered to cover the costs or recover the vehicle. My own funds and initiative sorted the matter to return the vehicle back to you in Johannesburg.
  3. You were paid in full for the rentals.
  4. If you really had a valid claim you would have taken some sort of legal route. You did not have a claim and you thought best just to get a stab at me because you felt like it. Sad ! If you want to sort this out. Pick up the phone and sort it out. Do not be backwards and go and post rubbish on the internet.

Unfortunately I will not be bullied into paying people what is not due to them.
